Vancouver SkeptiCamp is Only a Few Days Away!!
Posted by Ethan Clow on March 18, 2010
Are you busy this Saturday? If not (and even if you are) you should go to SkeptiCamp 2010!! SkeptiCamps are grassroots based unconferences. What that means is that they are community organized, volunteer powered, expressions of regional team work and determination.
SkeptiCamps are informal, community-organized conferences borne from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. Everyone from casual skeptics to the experienced participates, give talks and get to know each other.
SkeptiCamp emphasizes the participation of everyone, from the first-time speaker to the experienced hand. For this event, consider giving a presentation on a topic that drives your passion for science and skepticism. Alternatively, help with the event’s organization. At the very least, be an active participant and engage the speakers and your fellow attendees.
March 20, 2010 – Write it down, mark your calendar, tell your friends, call random people in the phone book and tell them about it!
The event will take place at UBC’s Victoria Learning Theatre (Room 182) at Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, 1961 East Mall, Vancouver. If you don’t know UBC that well or get lost easily feel free to contact us to some detailed advice and directions.
This will be Vancouver’s 3rd SkeptiCamp! An unprecedented success story, this year will be the best one yet!
Why should you care? Well here’s a reason, how about virtually every skeptical organization, group, person, and entity in Vancouver has helped contribute to this project. Not to mention our good buddy Phil Plait blogged about us over at Bad Astronomy!
And I think I can speak for my fellow co-hosts on Radio Freethinker, we are just happy as can be to help and promote and take part. We’re just jumping with excitement to give our talk at SkeptiCamp this year, we really hope you enjoy it as well and ask us all sorts of questions.
What are you waiting for?? Go register right now! Reserve your space for what will be the most fun you’ll have being skeptical this month! Remember to buy a t-shirt or two as these shirts are the freakin coolest shirts in the known universe!
