The Kirpan ban is that together with a general ban on knives at the Quebec legislator? Lots of people carry a knife. Unlike a gun there are many many uses for a knife even in today’s disposable world. I personally believe there are hundreds of knives on the grounds of the legislator. Be they steak knives, chef knives or basic dinner knives. I have to wonder what the purpose for the ban is? Were there safety issues? At any rate your discussion was less than complete and an argument for conformity.

In regards to the Nigab lady. She was not being reasonable as the issue was related by Rob. The basic issue of hiding ones face and expecting people to interact with normally is rude at best. the head scarf is just a scarf, hat whatever and is no ones business.

    • I agree that consistency is important. As an Dawkian Atheist i must be careful not to be a pawn of those with less (or even genuine) atheist goals but who wish to promote racism or xenophobia. As i stated in our extension of accommodationalism about veiled voting, i think IF you insist on visual verification it must work both ways…i.e. faces must be seen as well as photo id presented. If you don’t require one, i don’t see how you can honestly expect the other.
